I walked in to a Great Notion, the clouds parted, a sun beam highlighted the bolt of fabric. I think I even heard ANGELS!… No wait, I think it might have been choir boys singing… I knew I had found my fabric for my FVMQG Ugly Christmas Sweater contest. Good old Alexander Henry Pin-up Fabric! My sons were equally embarrassed and disgusted as I was impressed with the fabric I had brought home!

I now had the fabric, I needed a sweatshirt but most of all I needed blinky lights! My friend Sonja had made an awesome Halloween Mabel costume for her daughter from the show Gravity Falls. The character Mabel always wears blinky light sweatshirts. Sonja shared the secret of her blinky light resource (Michael’s Poster lights) and I was off cutting, sewing and embellishing.

Nothing like a good old Christmas project to get you in the mood for, well..Christmas! The sweat shirt was a hit at the guild meeting, although there was some tough competition. There were some jingle bells (that demanded quite for effect), lots of garland. Even one person held up a star above their head and POOF! They became a Christmas tree right before our very eyes! In the end there was no real prize for the competition. However, I think we were all content with the laughter that left us exhausted.

I wish you joy during your Christmas frenzy. And, that it brings you giggles and sufficient embarrassment to your children!

Merry Christmas you!

In 2007 I walked into Chintz and Company. I made a bee line for the downstairs as I was looking for some fabric (I know big suprise!). My family was waiting for me in the car and as I hoped out the vehicle I heard a “don’t be long” as I closed the door. Which I meant to do but then I saw the most beautiful trim I had ever seen! Screech, the power shopping ground to a halt. Nope not what I was looking for BUT it is here that I that I decided I would make us all new Christmas stockings. I had made everyone stockings in the early 90’s but it was time for something new. Of course, every year after 2007 I kept buying fabric to match the trim. I’d also started to find other outstanding trims on my travels. Then of course a few years ago at Creative Stitches I came across The Steam Trunk Craftworks vintage trims! It was like a the heavens opened up and went AWWWWWWWwwwww!

I really meant to make Christmas stocking ages ago and every year I’d joke, the nice thing about Christmas is it comes around each year so there was no rush. This year I just couldn’t take it any longer and decided, right! That’s it… this is the year! I still have a few more to do, which I will most likely squeak in just before the Christmas eve deadline (and I’ll probably post after Christmas) but let’s do show and tell of what I have now!

Shhh! Don’t tell her, this stocking is for my Mom.

This is the trim that started it All!

As tempted as I was to add a “F” to the end, it’s for my Mother In Law.

When I was making stockings, I came across this fabric and trim. I really loved the combination but I wasn’t sure who I was making it for. Then my lovely friend Hana was telling me she didn’t even have a stocking. Light bulb moment and it all became clear who I was making it for!

I have two boys and this isn’t for either of them. Mak’s parents, kind of grew up with us, we all meet just after we had all moved, we all ended up getting engaged and married, had babies and bought houses all around the same time. Mak is 10 months older than our oldest son, so we think of her as our niece. She and her sister also give me the great opportunity to get all girly! Which I so welcome!

KD, no not Kraft Dinner, Cadence, Cadie for short, is Mak’s sister, said she her favourite colour was bright orange! Knowing her Mom, ya, that wasn’t going to fly so this was our compromise! These lovely, yummy feather trims I bought last year at Britex Fabrics in San Fransisco!

If we don’t get to chat before Christmas, have a very Merry and cozy one! Don’t for get to hang up your stockings!
